Community

As soon as our students enter the classroom community we strive to assure them that their thoughts and actions have meaning and importance. TLC Learning Academy introduces and encourages both independence and engagement in learning. Students will regularly participate in group activities, including circle time, music, dance, and story time, to build social and school-readiness skills.

Students will also work towards increased independence and responsibility with regard to communication, critical thinking, self-direction, and keeping communal materials and spaces clean and organized. Through partnerships with teachers and families we aim to create an environment that celebrates and values diverse interests, backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs. This relationship is integral to the growth and development of our program and helps to strengthen our community in a truly meaningful way. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in classroom activities, communicate interests and concerns, and support initiatives that benefit the success of our program.

Social Justice

TLC Learning Academy has always been dedicated to fostering an environment of inclusivity- one that believes and acts on a principle that all members of our community are created equal and deserve respect. We will continue to work as a community to advocate for policies and practices that further equality and justice for all people. As an institution of learning, our work must be intentional, deliberate, and purposeful. This work manifests itself in the depth of curriculum and book choices that focus specifically on inclusion of all kinds. We will continue to seek out professional development opportunities to further inform our teaching, as we recognize that learning is ongoing throughout our lives. We share the common goal of creating compassionate and empathetic children who will be advocates for justice and peace.

“Children learn as they play. More importantly, in play, children learn how to learn.”
